Tottenham Hotspur is actively working on revamping its squad this summer.
Reports indicate that Spurs are open to selling midfielder Oliver Skipp during the ongoing transfer window, but only after securing a homegrown replacement.
According to Football Insider, Premier League rules necessitate maintaining a quota of homegrown players, making it crucial for the club to find another homegrown talent before finalizing Skipp’s departure.
Leicester City has shown interest in the 23-year-old midfielder, aiming to strengthen their squad following Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s £30 million transfer to Chelsea.
Skipp, who signed a five-year contract extension with Tottenham in April 2022, made a long-term commitment to the club.
Skipp is known for his defensive capabilities, excelling at breaking up play and regaining possession. These attributes have made him a valuable asset for the Lilywhites.
However, the arrival of new midfield talents like Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall is expected to further limit the Englishman’s opportunities next season.
Having joined Tottenham’s youth academy in 2008, Skipp has steadily risen to become a reliable squad player. The club’s academy graduate has only been away from North London for one campaign, having spent the 2020–21 season on loan at Norwich City.
As the transfer window progresses, Spurs will focus on bringing in a homegrown replacement while considering the overall balance of the squad.
