Tottenham Hotspur has confirmed the permanent transfer of Yago Santiago to Spanish second-division club Elche.

The 21-year-old winger, who honed his skills in Spurs’ academy, is set to continue his football journey in Spain, though the transfer fee remains undisclosed.

Santiago’s football story began in Vigo, Spain, where he played at the Areosa academy before moving to Celta de Vigo. His standout performance there, scoring 15 goals for the U16 side in the 2018-19 season, caught the eye of Tottenham scouts, leading to his transfer to the Premier League club in the summer of 2019.

At Tottenham, Santiago made a name for himself, progressing through the youth ranks with impressive stats. He netted four goals and provided five assists in 33 appearances for the U18 team and recorded 18 goals and 12 assists in 80 matches for the U21 squad.

Last season was particularly notable for Santiago, as he scored nine goals and delivered eight assists in 23 appearances, significantly contributing to Tottenham’s Premier League 2 triumph. His stellar performances earned him a spot in first-team training sessions under then-manager Antonio Conte and saw him included among the substitutes in five competitive matches.

Now, Santiago returns to his homeland, joining Elche, a club looking to reclaim its place in La Liga after relegation two seasons ago. Tottenham has extended its best wishes to Santiago, acknowledging his contributions and expressing hope for his continued success in Spain.

Yago Santiago’s move to Elche marks an exciting new chapter in his career, as he aims to make an impact in the Spanish second division and beyond.
