Lazio forward Ciro Immobile endured a frightening ordeal on Friday as he became the target of physical and verbal assault in the presence of his wife and son.
The distressing incident unfolded outside his son’s school, prompting Immobile to contemplate legal action against his assailants.
Journalist Zach Lowy brought attention to the attack, highlighting claims from Immobile’s agency suggesting that false information circulated by the Italian media regarding his alleged role in the dismissal of Maurizio Sarri may have incited the violence.

Immobile’s agency are alleging that the Italian press instigated this attack by spreading false and malicious rumors that he played a key role in the sacking of Maurizio Sarri.

In response to the disturbing events, Lazio released a statement vehemently denouncing the attack on their captain and offering unwavering support to Immobile and his family.
Labelling the assault as “disturbing” and “unacceptable,” the statement underscored the club’s commitment to upholding the principles of sportsmanship and condemning all manifestations of violence.
Issued via Lazio’s official website, the statement expressed the club’s complete solidarity with Ciro Immobile and his family, condemning the recent attacks unequivocally.
Furthermore, the club emphasised the necessity of maintaining the integrity of sport and asserted that any instances of verbal or physical violence must be met with resolute condemnation, without exception.
