Former Celtic player Anthony Stokes has been handed a five-month jail sentence for breaching court orders by contacting his ex-girlfriend and her family.

The Mirror reports that Stokes repeatedly messaged his former partner, accusing her of infidelity and criticizing her parenting abilities, despite being prohibited from doing so by court orders.

Depute fiscal Fergus Warner informed the court that Stokes bombarded his ex-girlfriend with emails, violating the ban on communication. Additionally, Stokes posted social media statuses insinuating his ex-partner’s alleged infidelity.

These actions followed Stokes’ admission of sending abusive messages via WhatsApp and email to his ex-girlfriend in September 2019. He engaged in name-calling and made uninvited visits to her residence, demanding information about her whereabouts. This pattern of abuse persisted from July 2018 to February 2019.

In September 2019, Stokes was issued a four-year non-harassment order against his ex-girlfriend and her parents. He was also mandated to participate in an anti-domestic abuse program.

Anthony Stokes had a diverse career, prominently featuring spells at Celtic among other clubs. Beginning his professional journey at Arsenal, Stokes displayed early promise and further honed his skills during loan spells at Falkirk and Sunderland.

However, it was his tenure at Celtic from 2010 that truly showcased his talents. Stokes played a pivotal role in the club’s domestic successes, contributing significantly to their Scottish Premier League titles and domestic cup victories.

Despite his on-field achievements, Stokes’ career was marred by various controversies and scandals, casting shadows over his playing achievements.
