Manchester United’s struggles in the Premier League persist, with the team languishing in 14th place following a series of inconsistent performances.
The Red Devils have suffered two defeats in their last five matches, and growing frustration within the squad suggests that manager Rúben Amorim’s approach is causing tensions.
Tensions rise between Amorim and players
As reported by The Sun, some players are displeased with Amorim after he linked the club’s financial issues, including staff redundancies, to their on-field performances.
These comments have reportedly widened the gap between the manager and his squad, who are still adjusting to his demanding playing style.
Although no direct confrontations have taken place, sources indicate that several players feel hesitant to voice their concerns. While some are fully committed to Amorim’s tactics, others feel restricted by his strict system and are wary of questioning his methods.
Despite the internal unrest, Amorim’s tenure has had some bright moments since he took charge in November 2024. His first game ended in a 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town, followed by his first victory, a 2-0 Europa League triumph over Bodø/Glimt.
His standout achievement so far came in December when he led United to a 2-1 win over Manchester City, becoming the first manager since Sir Alex Ferguson to win his first Manchester Derby.
Tactical challenges and future outlook
However, inconsistency remains an issue, with United experiencing disappointing losses, including a 3-1 defeat to Brighton in January, where Amorim publicly criticized the squad, labelling it “probably the worst team in the history” of the club.
While he remains unwavering in his tactical philosophy, some players are finding it difficult to adapt to his preferred 3-4-3 system, which has yet to yield the same success it did at Sporting Lisbon.
If United are to salvage their season and climb the table, Amorim must find a way to unify the squad and refine his tactical approach.
